This is a beautiful circular trail exploring the area around Bakewell. It takes you along the Monsal Trail to Hassop Station, continuing along a bridle path to reach the River Wye where you’ll follow the riverbank back to the town of Bakewell.
Your trail includes the Monsal Trail - a fantastic multi-use path across the Peak District National Park, ideal for walkers, cyclists and horse riders and also suitable for wheelchair users. It was opened in 1981 and follows the former Midland Railway line, which includes four tunnel passages of 400 metres. Enjoy the beautiful scenery along the path as it takes you through various fields to Hassop Station. The old station buildings now contain a bookshop, gift shop and cafe, and toilets are also available here.
As you approach Bakewell, many take a detour and walk into Bakewell for a pitstop and meander around the village before you head back to the last part of your trail. The cakes and Bakewell Pudding shop is something special and not to be missed!
This is a very popular area for hiking, mountain biking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
It is recommended that some parts of the trail can be get muddy after rainfall (bridleway and riverside paths) so please ensure you are wearing appropriate footwear and waterproof trousers to protect your legs.
Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
