How Do You Get Your Category D Licence?

Apply For Your Provisional
Congratulations!
You've decided to apply for your Category D licence to become a PSV driver.
You will need to order a D2 Application Form from the DVLA which will also come with a Medical Form too.
On arrival of your pack, book a Motor Medical appointment who will assess your suitability and fitness to drive.
Send your completed Application and Medical forms back to the DVLA and wait for your new licence to arrive in the post with your Category D Provisional status on your licence.

Complete Your Training
Time to Drive!
Now is the time to find a suitable provider who can teach you the ways of the coach/bus!
You should be a competent driver on the road to begin with , complete with a sound knowledge of The Highway Code.
The average learner will require approximately 20 hours to complete training AND their 2 practical examinations.
Your instructor should show you how to complete a First Use Check as part of your training as well as the best practice for driving a PSV.

Undertake Your Exams
You will need to undertake and pass 6 individual examinations to gain your Category D licence in Full:
CPC Part 1a: Theory Test
CPC Part 1b: Hazard Perception
CPC Part 2: 7 Case Studies
CPC Part 3a: Off Road Exercise
CPC Part 3b: On Road Driving Practical
CPC Part 4: Practical Demonstration
You must complete parts 1a, 1b and Part 2 BEFORE you undertake your practical training. Part 4 can also be undertaken before 3a and 3b too.
Training doesn't HAVE to cost the earth

Bonded Training
Bonded Training offers you an affordable path to becoming a Coach Driver, with no upfront costs once you start the course. We cover all training and exam fees.
Training sessions are designed to fit around your existing schedule, with lessons available on weekends and select evenings.
After successfully passing your exams, you will be guaranteed driving positions for a minimum of 12 months. These jobs will be with us and other coach operators who may need your services.
If you decide to exit the training program or leave within the 12-month period after qualifying, you will be responsible for repaying the training costs.
Please note that candidates must pay for their own medical exam to obtain a provisional Category D licence. Please also note that if a candidate fails an exam more than twice, they will be responsible for any additional test fees.
Pay Upfront Training
If you want to gain your category D licence before heading on to pastures new (or perhaps you are a company wanting to pay for your employee to undertake the training), this option is for you.
With the upfront cost of training starting from £2500 for 20 hours of practical training and all examinations (and their associated costs) included, you'll be fully qualified before you know it.
If you require further practical training sessions after your initial 20 hours, these can be arranged too at a set hourly rate.
Your training will be arranged around your current working and daily commitments with lessons available at the weekends and selected evenings so you have complete flexibility to train whilst you continue to earn.

Pay Upfront Fast Track Training
Sometimes you just want to undertake your training quickly so you can start your new career. With prices starting from £2500, we now offer a Fast Track training programme where you will undertake 2.5 full days of practical tuition from our instructor (20 hours).
During this time, you will also complete your Off Road Exercise and On Road Exercise exams.
You will need to have undertaken all other parts of the necessary examinations before you join us behind the wheel and any further training required (or resits of your practical examinations) will incur additional charges.
Once you've successfully completed your examinations, it will be you and the open road!
